Lithuania moves to freeze assets of Usmanov and Fridman under national sanctions

LithuaniaApproved

Lithuania’s government approved national measures targeting Russian businessmen Alisher Usmanov and Mikhail Fridman on 14 October, following their removal from the European Union’s sanctions list.

According to the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the measures provide for the freezing of assets and prohibit funds or economic resources from being made available to either businessman, directly or indirectly.

The national measures are intended to maintain financial restrictions in Lithuania despite the change in EU-level sanctions. They are relevant to banks, financial institutions and businesses handling assets or transactions connected to the individuals concerned.

The ministry has not disclosed the value of assets affected by the measures.
