📦 Latvia’s Export Value Up 8.8% in September
In September 2025, Latvia’s external trade turnover reached €3.83 billion, up 11.3% year-on-year, according to the Central Statistical Bureau (CSP). Export value increased by 8.8% to €1.73 billion, while imports rose 13.5% to €2.09 billion.
The main drivers of export growth were vehicles and parts (+27.7%), agricultural goods (+12.4%), animal products (+25.4%), wood and wood products (+6.6%), and base metals (+15.4%). Import growth was strongest in machinery and electrical equipment (+14.5%), vehicles (+22.5%), and chemical products (+14.6%).
Top export partners were Lithuania (17.3%), Estonia (10.8%), Germany (7.1%), and the United Kingdom (5.6%). Imports came mainly from Lithuania (21.3%), Poland (10.8%), Germany (10.8%), and Estonia (9.1%).
Trade with Russia and Belarus continued to shrink.
• Exports to Russia rose slightly by 1% to €86.6 million, while imports fell 84% to just €4 million, driven by a near-total collapse in mineral imports (-99%).
• Exports to Belarus decreased 31% to €9.6 million, and imports plunged 68% to €3.3 million.
• Trade with Ukraine also declined — exports down 18%, imports down 11%.
Over the first nine months of 2025, Latvia’s total trade turnover grew 6.1% to €31.86 billion, with exports up 4.4% and imports up 7.7%.
Context:
Latvia’s export growth remains broad-based but import expansion outpaces it, widening the trade gap. The steep contraction in energy imports from Russia and Belarus underscores Latvia’s continued decoupling from post-Soviet supply chains, while EU partners now account for more than 70% of exports and 83% of imports.
