π Latvians Prioritize Health, Economic Security, and Stable Jobs β EY Study
Health care, economic stability, and well-paid jobs top the list of what Latvians most want improved, according to the latest EY Future Consumer Index survey conducted across the Baltics with research partner Norstat.
Two-thirds of respondents in Latvia (66%) said better access to and quality of health care are the most urgent priorities. Nearly half (45%) highlighted the need for stronger economic security and state support for local businesses, while 37% emphasized the importance of more well-paid, career-building jobs.
Despite concerns about long waiting times and doctor shortages, trust in Latviaβs health system remains high (77.3%) β a paradox showing that people believe in the system but expect much more from it.
Additional areas of concern include housing (36%) and education (35%), reflecting rising housing costs in cities and ongoing school reforms, including the transition to teaching in Latvian and a new pay model for teachers.
Context:
The findings show that Latvians are focused on fundamental security β the ability to care for themselves and their families. In an aging society with modest growth forecasts for 2025, public expectations for health, economic stability, and job quality will likely shape national policy debates ahead of next yearβs budget cycle.
