📦 Ukrainian LNG Cargo Reaches Klaipėda Terminal for the First Time

A liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo ordered by D.TRADING International SA, the trading arm of Ukraine’s DTEK Group, has arrived at the Klaipėda LNG terminal operated by KN Energies. Around 160,000 m³ of U.S. LNG was transferred from the GasLog Houston carrier to the FSRU Independence. After regasification, part of the cargo – roughly 1 TWh – will be transported to Ukraine via regional interconnector links.

This is the first shipment by D.TRADING delivered through spot regasification capacity allocated at the KlaipÄ—da terminal.

Lithuania’s Minister of Energy stated that the delivery demonstrates practical support for Ukraine during ongoing winter energy disruptions. Ukraine’s Ambassador noted that Klaipėda provides an alternative supply route that strengthens the country’s resilience. KN Energies emphasised that the terminal’s open-access operating model enables such cooperation.

Context:

Since 2022, Klaipėda has become the main LNG entry point for the Baltic region. The terminal routinely receives standard-size LNG carriers in the 160–170 thousand m³ class, depending on navigation conditions and berth availability. In 2025, Klaipėda handled 30 LNG cargoes, regasifying 23.9 TWh of gas. About 71% of the volumes originated from U.S. LNG plants, with the remainder supplied from Norway, Mauritania, Senegal, and Trinidad and Tobago. Regasified gas is distributed to Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, and—when required—onward to Ukraine via EU interconnectors.
