🇪🇪 Estonia |Pärnu to Host the Baltic Region’s First e-Methanol Plant
An international consortium led by Destiny Energy Singapore plans to build the first e-methanol production plant in the Baltic region on the grounds of Pärnu Airport in Estonia. The local development partner is Pärnu P2X Hub OÜ (PP2XH), while the broader investment framework is linked to Tolaram Group, an established player in Estonia’s energy and logistics sectors.
The project envisions a Power-to-X (P2X) facility that will use renewable electricity to synthesize methanol from captured carbon dioxide and green hydrogen — a key step toward decarbonizing shipping and heavy industry.
Construction could begin in 2026, following environmental and grid-connection approvals. The site selection near the airport provides proximity to both energy infrastructure and transport logistics, positioning Pärnu as a potential regional hub for synthetic fuels.
“This would mark Estonia’s entry into the next phase of renewable fuel production, aligning with EU targets for green maritime energy,” said project representatives at P2X Hub.
Context:
e-Methanol is gaining global momentum as a clean marine fuel and chemical feedstock. Denmark and Finland have already launched pilot plants, while Estonia’s initiative in Pärnu would be the first commercial-scale project in the Baltics. If successful, it could supply future methanol-powered vessels through ports in Pärnu and Riga. The project also aligns with the EU’s FuelEU Maritime and RePowerEU objectives.
