Klaipėda launches tender for 100-hectare port expansion

The Port of Klaipėda has launched the main construction tender for its southern expansion, moving Lithuania’s largest port development project towards creation of 100 hectares of new territory and 1.3 kilometres of new quay infrastructure.

The new area is expected to accommodate terminals, additional container handling and marine engineering activities, with potential capacity of around 30 million tonnes of cargo per year. The project also includes dredging and relocation of a 110 kV overhead power line underground.

Nearly €600 million of Klaipėda Port’s 2026–2029 investment programme is allocated to the southern expansion. Including expected private investment, the port estimates total investment at more than €1 billion. A competition to select an operator for the new territory is planned later this year.
