🔥 Latvia’s natural gas consumption drops 6.6% in nine months
Latvia’s natural gas consumption reached 5.98 TWh in the first nine months of 2025 — a 6.6% decrease compared with the same period in 2024, according to the Central Statistical Bureau.
The sharpest monthly drop occurred in September (-20.4%), when consumption totaled 410 GWh. Demand fluctuated earlier in the year: usage surged in February (+24%) and May (+56%), but fell again in July (-10%) and August (-19%).
The decline reflects both lower industrial activity and growing renewable energy output, particularly from wind and solar installations. Last year, gas consumption had risen by 6.6% after the 2022 energy shock, but the trend is now reversing as Latvia diversifies its energy sources.
