Lithuania Adopts Law for EU AI Act Oversight

LithuaniaApproved

Lithuania’s Seimas adopted a national law on 5 November to implement the EU Artificial Intelligence Act, setting out how national institutions will supervise and coordinate the rules.

The Ministry of the Economy and Innovation will coordinate implementation. The Communications Regulatory Authority (RRT) will act as the common contact point and coordinate the market-surveillance authorities. The Innovation Agency will establish an AI regulatory sandbox, while the State Digital Solutions Agency will contribute to its development and provide methodological support to the public sector.

The law is scheduled to take effect on 1 December 2026. It creates Lithuania’s institutional framework for applying the EU AI Act; it does not mean that all obligations under the European regulation begin on the same date.

Editorial context

Lithuania’s national law provides the institutional framework for implementing the EU AI Act. It does not set a single start date for every obligation under the EU regulation.
