Lithuania Backs Nine-Year Postal Mandate
Lithuania’s government has approved a proposal to retain Lietuvos paštas as the country’s universal postal service provider for another nine years, from January 2027 until the end of 2035.
The new arrangements will also expand the role of parcel lockers. From 1 January 2027, universal postal services must be available through the locker network. From 2029, parcel lockers will be required in every settlement with at least 500 residents.
Lietuvos paštas currently operates 158 post offices and employs 436 mobile postal workers. Its parcel locker network extends to almost 1,500 locations across the Baltic countries.
Universal postal services cover specified domestic and international letters and parcels, including registered mail. The new requirements aim to maintain nationwide service coverage while expanding automated delivery infrastructure.
