Lithuania starts construction of Leopard 2A8 assembly and repair plant
Construction has started on a Leopard 2A8 tank assembly and repair plant in the Kaunas Free Economic Zone, with a symbolic time capsule laid at the site on 1 October.
Around €50 million is earmarked for the project, which is expected to create about 80 jobs. The plant is being developed by Lithuania Defence Services and will handle both assembly and maintenance of Leopard 2A8 tanks in Lithuania.
The Lithuanian government approved the project in March. Beyond the immediate military procurement, the investment adds another permanent manufacturing and servicing capability to Lithuania’s growing defence-industrial base.
