🇪🇪 Food Industry Shift: Paulig may centralise Santa Maria production in Estonia
Finnish food group Paulig is considering consolidating its global Santa Maria spice production at its plant in Saue, Estonia. The move could significantly expand the facility and create additional jobs.
The relocation would involve closing a leased factory in Mölndal, Sweden, which currently produces part of the Santa Maria range. The decision depends on negotiations with Swedish trade unions and labour law procedures.
Santa Maria accounts for roughly 15% of Paulig’s total production volume. If approved, equipment transfers could begin in summer 2026, with full consolidation expected by 2027.
Context:
The potential shift reflects a broader regional trend where Nordic manufacturers increasingly concentrate food production in the Baltics due to cost efficiency, ownership flexibility, and logistics advantages. It also highlights how Nordic labour negotiations can directly influence industrial geography in the Baltic region.
