Latvia’s forestry service reports 19,868 roe deer culled this season β€” well below the 35,000 taken in seasons before limits were removed, and still short of the 30,000–40,000 needed to stabilise the national population (~202,000 animals).

Context: Latvia has no legal commercial market for game meat, so most venison remains inside hunting collectives through private distribution. The main concern is structure, not volume: 56% of this year’s cull were bucks, far above the recommended 35–40%.
