Solar supplied almost 60% of Latvia’s electricity generation in August

Solar power plants generated 221 GWh of electricity in Latvia in August, more than twice the level recorded a year earlier, according to transmission system operator Augstsprieguma tīkls.

Solar accounted for almost 60% of all electricity generated and fed into the Latvian grid during the month. Total domestic generation reached 368 GWh, while electricity consumption amounted to 604 GWh, meaning local production covered 60.99% of demand.

Hydropower generation fell by 33% from July to 80 GWh, while wind generation reached 34 GWh. Latvia’s average electricity price rose by 6% during the month to €79.78/MWh, although it remained slightly below the August 2025 level.

Signal: Solar has become the dominant source of Latvian electricity generation in a summer month, but the country still relied heavily on imports as weaker hydro output kept total domestic generation well below consumption.
