Lithuania Requests €1.06 Billion from EU’s SAFE Loan Programme

LithuaniaAnnounced

Lithuania’s Ministry of Finance submitted its first payment request of €1.06 billion to the European Commission under the EU’s Security Action for Europe (SAFE) instrument on 21 October.

After deducting the relevant portion of the pre-financing received in June, the new transfer is expected to amount to approximately €905 million, subject to European Commission approval.

Lithuania received an initial €956 million in pre-financing on 24 June. If the latest request is approved, total disbursements will reach approximately €1.86 billion, representing 29% of the country’s €6.375 billion SAFE loan allocation.

The instrument provides concessional loans for security and defence-related investment. According to the Ministry of Finance, the requested funds are expected to reach Lithuania in approximately two months, following approval.
