Enefit opens 167 MW Kelmė wind complex in Lithuania
Estonian state-owned energy group Eesti Energia has expanded its generation footprint in Lithuania with the official opening of the Kelmė I and Kelmė II wind farms.
The two projects have a combined capacity of 167 MW and required investment of about €324 million, according to Enefit, Eesti Energia’s electricity business. The company expects the wind farms to generate around 580 GWh of electricity annually.
Kelmė I has a capacity of 80 MW, while Kelmė II adds another 87 MW. Following their opening, Enefit operates nine wind farms in Lithuania with combined capacity exceeding 400 MW.
The company is also adding battery storage alongside the new generation. A 16 MW battery system is planned at Kelmė I and an 18 MW system at Kelmė II. They form part of Enefit’s wider €30.3 million investment in three Lithuanian battery projects with combined capacity of 46 MW.
The investment strengthens the cross-Baltic dimension of the electricity market: an Estonian state-owned energy group is expanding both generation and storage assets in Lithuania, alongside the physical integration of the region’s power systems.
