Lithuania and European Commission sign €884 million Social Climate Plan

Lithuania

Lithuania and the European Commission have formally signed the country’s €884.2 million Social Climate Plan, moving the programme towards implementation.

The plan combines €662.9 million from the EU Social Climate Fund with about €221.4 million in Lithuanian funding and will run until 2032.

The programme targets households and small businesses particularly exposed to energy and transport costs. It includes support for energy-efficient home renovation and social housing as well as a substantial package of transport measures.

In transport, funding will support electric vehicles and charging infrastructure, more than 300 electric buses, over 280 kilometres of new bicycle lanes, and demand-responsive transport services in 54 municipalities. A national integrated public transport ticketing and journey-planning system is also planned.

For housing, vulnerable households will be able to receive support covering 50–85% of eligible renovation costs.

The European Commission approved Lithuania’s plan in June. The September 30 signing therefore marks the next implementation step rather than the initial approval of the funding package. Lithuania will be able to request its first payment after implementation has begun.
