Litgrid awards €8.97m contract to modernise key Mažeikiai power node
Lithuanian transmission system operator Litgrid has signed an €8.97 million contract with TETAS to reconstruct the 110 kV switchyard at the Mažeikiai power plant substation.
The substation is a key part of the local electricity system. It supplies power needed for the operation of Orlen Lietuva’s Mažeikiai facilities and also transfers electricity generated at the power plant into Lithuania’s transmission grid.
The reconstruction will replace ageing infrastructure and introduce modern control and protection systems as well as more remotely operated network connections.
Construction is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2027 and be completed in the second quarter of 2030.
