Lithuania halves train fares in response to higher fuel prices
Lithuania will cut domestic train fares by 50% from 9 October until the end of 2026 as the government responds to sharply higher fuel prices.
The same discount is planned for intercity buses from 1 November, subject to parliamentary approval. Additional public funding is estimated at around €2.8 million for rail services and €3.15 million for buses.
The measure turns the recent fuel-price increase from a consumer inflation story into a direct transport-policy intervention.
