Estonia’s leading agribusiness Baltic Agro is loading one of the largest grain cargos in the country’s recent history — a 75,000-ton Panamax-class wheat shipment, fully sourced from Estonian farmers and consolidated at Muuga Grain Terminal. The vessel is bound for Spain.

According to Baltic Agro’s head of grain trading Timo Sildvee, Estonia has not shipped more than 70,000 tons of wheat in a single batch in recent years. Earlier this season, Baltic Agro loaded 66,000 tons of barley, and in October the three largest Estonian grain buyers — Baltic Agro, Kevili, and Scandagra — jointly loaded 68,500 tons of wheat.

Baltic Agro, Kevili and Scandagra are Baltic- and Nordic-owned grain traders and cooperatives representing local farmers — not third-country buyers.

Baltic Agro is part of Denmark’s DLG Group, Kevili is Estonia’s largest farmer cooperative, and Scandagra is jointly owned by Lantmännen (Sweden) and DLG (Denmark). These companies consolidate regional grain and sell it mainly to European markets, with the current Panamax batch destined for Spain.

The 75,000-ton shipment corresponds to nearly 2,600 truckloads delivered throughout the year to Muuga Grain Terminal. Under dry-weather conditions, loading a vessel of this size takes 5–6 days. Baltic Agro works with more than 900 Estonian grain growers, making it one of the country’s largest buyers of wheat and rapeseed.

Regional comparison:

Latvia maintains a stable and regionally significant grain export flow, reaching 1.82 million tons of wheat and wheat–rye mix (KN1001) in January–September 2025 (CSP).

Lithuania remains the largest grain-handling country in the Baltics by port volume, with 2.8 million tons processed in Q1–Q3 2025, although available Lithuanian statistics do not distinguish local grain from transit.
