Inčukalns enters winter gas withdrawal season with 12 TWh in storage

LatviaData released

Latvia’s Inčukalns underground gas storage facility has entered the 2026/2027 winter withdrawal season with nearly 12 TWh of natural gas, according to transmission and storage operator Conexus Baltic Grid.

The stored volume represents approximately 72% of the 16.6 TWh of capacity booked by market participants. The facility’s total technical storage capacity for the current cycle is 24.4 TWh.

Inčukalns is a major source of winter gas supply for the Baltic region, complementing deliveries from the Klaipėda LNG terminal in Lithuania, Finland’s Inkoo terminal and the Poland–Lithuania gas interconnection.

During the preceding injection season, Lithuania accounted for 77.3% of gas entering the Latvian and Estonian transmission systems, while Finland supplied another 20.7%.

Conexus expects withdrawals to alternate with additional injections over the coming months as market participants continue importing gas during the winter. Interest in storage capacity allowing such injections has increased substantially compared with the previous season.
