Omniva asks European Commission to examine postal funding in Latvia and Lithuania
Estonian logistics group Omniva has asked the European Commission to assess the financing of universal postal services in Latvia and Lithuania.
The company submitted complaints concerning the mechanisms used to compensate national postal operators for providing universal services. Omniva argues that clearer separation is needed between activities financed by the state and commercial operations competing on the open market.
The dispute concerns a market in which traditional postal operators increasingly compete with private companies in parcel delivery and logistics while continuing to receive public compensation for universal postal obligations.
Omniva had previously announced that it was preparing to take the issue to Brussels. The complaints have now been submitted, but the European Commission has not yet announced any conclusions on the case.
